Your New Morning Routine

By: Hannah Klausner

If we all carved out 30 minutes-1 hour of our mornings, I truly believe we would all benefit from doing so, and be better people because of it. Having a solid yet productive morning routine puts you in the right headspace that is necessary for moving throughout your day with ease.

Disclaimer - everyone’s routine will look different from one another, as we all have different wake up times, classes, eating, and working out schedules. However, if you implement some of these suggestions into your everyday life, you will eventually thank yourself for doing so. Here is an outline of what an ideal morning looks like for me!

I don’t have class on Tuesdays and Fridays, so when I devote some time to caring for myself, it usually looks a little something like this:

7-7:30 AM

I genuinely love to wake up early because the morning light truly brings me a lot of joy (especially at the beach), but understand it is 100% okay to sleep in if that is what your body is asking for! From here I will open my blinds and head downstairs to grab a huge mason jar, at which point I fill it with cold water and chlorophyll. Your body becomes dehydrated overnight as you rest, so it is important to do this first thing in the morning. Alongside that, I’ve been enjoying some tea (my favorite is the brand Yogi) with a splash of macadamia milk or some warm lemon water.

7:45-8:30 AM

I then head back upstairs where I will journal and meditate in my room. My favorite meditation platforms are the Mindful Movement on Youtube, Peloton, or Calm. In my journal I usually just write what feels right at that moment. Some of my most common prompts are 5 minute mind dumps, gratitude lists, weekly or monthly intentions, weekly or monthly reflections, and an outline of what my week looks like (also including movement, creativity, pleasure, and self care, not just work or to-dos).

8:30 AM

At this point I usually make a cup of coffee because I’m not quite hungry enough for breakfast yet. I love to listen to a podcast as I drink my coffee and make my bed. My go to coffee is a hot black made in my Chemex plus a dash of Malk oat milk or Nutpods. As far as podcasts go, I love CrimeJunkie, @lexie, The Doctor’s Farmacy, welcome to paradise, What the F*ck is Sea Moss?, and Chat with Cat. After this I brush my teeth, wash my face, moisturize, and ice roll my face.

9-9:30 AM

At this time, I will usually throw on a workout outfit and go for a long walk down the road. If the weather isn’t too great, I will bust out my mat and practice yoga. This is also a great way to clear my head if my journaling session wasn’t quite where it needed to be that day. I almost always listen to a podcast as I take my walks.

10-10:30 AM

By this time I am definitely hungry and ready to eat breakfast. Lately I’ve been in a more savory mood, so I’ve been enjoying some combination of eggs, toast, and avocado (if you really want to know what my breakfast looks like on a given day, be sure to follow @nutritionwithhan on insta!). Afterwards I’ll jump in the shower, put on something comfortable, and head to campus to get some work done.

Thanks for reading, and let me know if you guys have any questions, or if you give this routine a shot!

Xoxo,

Hannah Klausner
