Fall Fashion Trends 2021

 Fabrics: Leather

Leather is back baby! Over the past few months, I have seen leather everywhere. Besides your classic leather jacket, I have seen this fabric used for tops, various styles of pants, skirts, matching sets, and so on. Leather pieces are a classy, yet sexy way to help elevate any outfit. I own a few leather jackets and I just added leather pants with a matching corset to my Christmas wish list!

 Colors: Brown

This rich, chocolate brown color is taking over my closet. As a brunette, I was terrified to try it out as I was convinced it would blend in with my hair and look terrible. When I was trying on dresses for the President’s Ball, I stumbled across a style I loved, but could only find brown in the store. I decided to try it on for size and intended on ordering a different color online. The moment I put that dress on I knew my bank account was doomed – I was obsessed! It is surprisingly such a flattering color that comes in many fabrics and hues, which makes it easy to work with. I have seen people of various skin tones and hair colors wear it, and it honestly looks amazing on all of them!

 Pants: Flare

Flare pants are another trend I cannot get enough of. Something I have noticed throughout analyzing popular trends for this fall is a common thread of styles from the past. Does this trend remind anyone else of the Victoria’s Secret yoga pants we all lived in when we were fourteen? I have seen flared leggings, work pants, sweatpants, leather pants, jeans, and even trendy going out pants. My favorite brand for cozy flare pants is Aerie! Their leggings feel like butter and their sweatpants are amazing. I feel like an off-duty model when I walk around campus in them, even though they are just sweatpants. The flare detail adds a little something extra to a basic pair of pants and helps give off an hourglass figure appearance.

 Coats: Shackets

Jackets and coats are the main reason I am able to cope with this cold weather. They are a great way to spice up any outfit, especially if you get one that’s patterned! I have seen shackets in all different lengths, fabrics, and thicknesses. You can get one that is super lightweight and soft, or one that’s super thick and heavy to wear throughout the winter. Apricot Lane has a ton, located on the main stretch of stores in Fairfield.  Despite being obsessed with fashion, I just bought my first one not too long ago. I got a thinner, super soft tan one and I am obsessed to say the least. My next shacket purchase is going to be the Abercrombie plaid sherpa shacket down below. 100/10 recommend!

 Tops: Corsets

Urban Outfitters Modern Love corset: the top that broke the Internet. It was so popular that Urban Outfitters does not even sell it anymore. Even though they are not suitable for fall weather, they are perfect under a leather jacket or shacket! Corsets are another example of a way to elevate any outfit. A feminine lace one would pair well with a heavier jacket and chunky boots to add some contrast.

 Shoes: Chunky Boots

Let’s be real, will chunky boots ever go out of style? I remember the popularity of Chelsea boots when I was a freshman or sophomore in high school. That’s when I got my first pair – which I still wear to this day! I have seen a million variations of chunky boots: high heel versus flat, tall versus short, dressy versus casual, and retro style versus gothic style. You simply cannot go wrong!
