Stay Positive with Me

It has been extremely difficult to stay positive right now with everything that is going on in the world. We are very grateful to live in a society that provides us with news and educational resources daily whether it's on social media, through a podcast, or on television. Even though we are blessed with unlimited resources and information, it can get overwhelming and exhausting at times. Watching the news all day can negatively impact your daily mood, your mental health, and your physical health. Here are some ways on how to remain positive during these unprecedented times.

Go on a Drive

There is nothing like going on a nice drive around your hometown while blasting music. Going on drives always clears my head and it instantly puts me in a better mood. The Point has a Spotify, TPM, that has playlists of great and new music you can listen to! You can also listen to the Point Magazine’s podcast, The Girls Next Door, that is available on Spotify and Soundcloud. New episodes from The Girls Next Door are posted every Tuesday.

Calling/Hanging out with friends

Whenever I feel down, talking to my friends and joking around with them always puts me in the best mood. Zoom has been my best friend these past few months; it's the easiest way to communicate with my college friends that live far away from me. Also, you can hang out with your home friends while being socially distant depending on the restrictions in your state.

Exercise

Even though gyms are not open, there are still ways to be active and to release those necessary endorphins. I go on walks every day just to get outside and to be active. There are so many free online gym classes on YouTube you can check out as well as doing at home workouts yourself.

Try out new recipes and cocktails (if 21)

There is nothing better than food. Baking and cooking with family also improves my mood and it's a fun activity to get people together. During quarantine, I was experimenting with new cocktails and other recipes with my family through Zoom and I will never forget those memories we shared together.

Get Outside

Getting a change of scenery while being socially distant and safe will drastically change your mood. Going to the beach, going on a hike, or even going to a park will make you instantly happier. It is also good for your mental and physical health to get outside.

It's not guaranteed that if you do these five things you will immediately feel happier, but it is better than laying in your bed and doing nothing about how you are feeling. The world is a scary place right now, but it is important to remember that better days are ahead of us and that we are the generation that will change the world for the better. The Point Magazine is a safe and inclusive place where you can read new articles coming up that talk about things that are going on in the world. Educate yourself, stay healthy, and do things that will make you happy.

Love, Allison
