Day in the Life: Quarantine

Covid-19’s spread has caused us all to stay home. Though it’s not ideal to be stuck inside when we would have otherwise been completing our second semester of school, the most important aspect of this unexpected situation is that we keep healthy and safe. I have found that creating a schedule around my day, instead of watching movies or lying in bed (which is what I would prefer to do), has allowed me to feel less lonely, more occupied and more productive. I wanted to share a day in my life of quarantine. Though it is not thrilling, if you desire to find some type of routine during this time you guys can get inspiration from my routine!

9:30: I have been trying to wake up at 9:30 every day because it is not too late but not too early. When I sleep until afternoon time I can’t help but feel like I have wasted the day. This is a perfect in between not making myself get up too early, but still having time to be productive.

9:45: I wash my face and moisturize my skin. Keeping up with a solid skin care routine is important, and it has been an even better time for me to focus on skin care because I have not been wearing makeup.

10:00: For breakfast I have been having avocado toast and egg whites. I take a full avocado and mix it with lemon juice, salt, pepper and red crushed pepper, and make it into a mash. I spread this mash on whole wheat toast and top it with arugula. On the side I scramble egg whites and drink it with lemon water and coffee with almond milk. This meal is healthy and keeps me full for a long period of time. Now that I am not at school I have been trying to have more filling and healthy meals.

11:00: I will try and get school work out of the way from about two hours from 11 to 1. When I make a list and set goals of the things I want to get done during this two hour period I am more productive. The brand CGD London has planners and calendars that I have used and loved.

1:00: For about two hours I work out. I walk on the treadmill in my house for 30 minutes at an incline of 8, and also do butt, leg, and ab workouts that I found on Youtube. I have had to be creative since I don’t have all the machines Fairfield’s gym has, but I have found going online and looking for inspiration helps.

3:00: I have a small lunch around this time because my family eats dinner around 6. Today I had homemade rice noodles and had avocado on the side. It was delicious and filling enough to hold me over until dinner.

4:00: I try to take more time out of the day to focus on school work, because it is the most important part of my life. It may only be an hour but it makes me feel a lot better knowing I have gotten ahead on a few assignments.

6:00: My family has made an effort to eat every dinner together since quarantine has started. Usually I am at college, my dad is in New York City, and my brother is also at school. This has been the first time we have all sat down for family dinners since we were younger. Quality family time has been a positive aspect of this scary time, and I have been appreciating every moment of it. Though we are all stressed, it is nice to have time to talk, eat and relax.

7:00: I use this time after dinner to shower, and pamper myself. I make myself tea, put on a face mask and relax in bed while watching TV, a movie, or catching up with my friends on facetime.

11:00: I try to go to bed fairly early. It is tempting when you know you don’t have class to wake up for to stay up all night, but when I go to bed at a set it makes the next day more productive. I hope that you guys gain some sort of inspiration from my day in life during corona. It is easy to feel alone, and stressed during this time, but always remember to be productive and make the most of everything.

Stay healthy! Caroline Hadfield
