In The Blink of An Eye

By Katie Steinetz

In September, the student body of Fairfield stepped onto campus again for the first day of classes - some for the first time and some for the last. Everyone tells you how quickly college goes by, but you never believe it until you get there. In the blink of an eye, the first two months of college are in the past; new friendships have surfaced and countless memories have been made. As a freshman, your first few weeks are filled with new experiences. And before you know it, this place feels more and more like home; you are fully adjusted to college life. The more people you meet here, the more you realize how adored this place is and why people chose to come to Fairfield. A freshman’s days are filled with many firsts, while a senior’s is filled with lasts. You always hear from upperclassmen, “You are so lucky. These next 4 years will be amazing!” I look forward to experiencing everything that makes Fairfield the amazing place it is. I hope that I’ll look back on my 4 years and also tell a freshman how lucky they are to have just begun their journey here.

If we have learned anything in these last few years, it is that we can’t take the little things for granted, and we have to cherish every moment. College is filled with precious moments with friends that shouldn’t be taken for granted. These past two months, I have found joy in the little things I do with my friends- like sitting in each other's rooms and talking, or having pizza dinners on the beach. Time is a precious thing and goes by so quickly, so we have to make the most of every moment we get. The days may feel long, but before we know it, we will be packing up our things and heading home… entering adult life. With two fun-filled months already behind us, there is so much to look forward to in the remainder of the year. College is four short years filled with a lifetime of memories and laughs. We have to live in the moment and not wish away time.

With four more months left, we all have to make the most of the time we get to spend with the ones we love. As much as we would love to slow down the clock and stay right where we are, time doesn’t work like that. We must live in the moment and not be scared of the future, or we will miss out on what is right in front of us. Make the most of every moment here, because just like the first two months, the rest will go by even quicker.
