As We Let Go of Summer…

By Caroline Taylor

The first two months of school have passed by in just nearly a few blinks. All of a sudden, we find our eyes admiring Fairfield’s colorful campus and the ever-changing foliage surrounding us. The daily drops in temperature signal the official start of snuggling up to watch our favorite shows and movies, with a fall scented candle burning by our bedsides. However, at times we can’t help but long for warmer days dancing in the sun on the Point, or running across the sand and diving into the open ocean. We may find ourselves missing that golden tan and salty hair from what felt like those endless hours on the beach listening to the ebbs and flows of crashing waves.

As hard as it may be, it is now officially time to let go of summer. The changing of the seasons is truly a beautiful part of life. It calls for a period of adjustment, and allows for change to be seen as a positive, and the start of new excitement. Now that this fall, and the soon-to-be winter season is upon us, we are invited to dig deeper into ourselves before the next summer begins.

To help you ease into that new fall mood, here are some of the best ways to “spice up” the chillier months ahead!

  1. Go apple and pumpkin picking with friends and family! These fall activities are favorites for a reason! It’s not quite cold enough to wear a big winter jacket, but go ahead and throw on your comfiest puffer vest that goes with every fall outfit! Decorate with colorful pumpkins and enjoy delicious apples for days!

  2. Everyone’s been loving the iconic hot girl walk— but let’s continue with COLD girl walks! You can still get ready for a good walk, just put on that extra layer under your coziest sweatshirt! Find a favorite podcast, playlist, or walk and chat with friends and stop for a warm latte along the way!

  3. Take a trip to Trader Joe’s and shop all of their “Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice” collection! If you are a pumpkin spice fan, TJ’s has a new fall flavor for every snack and food you can think of!

  4. Of course, there will be days when we just want to hang around in our coziest sweat sets in our rooms, and that is totally OK. Make sure to always take time to rest your body and mind. The colder weather is the perfect time to rest— so relax and listen to the new Taylor Swift ‘Midnight’s’ album!!
