MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE
I’m no beauty expert or skincare guru, but there’s one thing i’ve learned in my two decades of living about skin in the winter time:
MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE
Winter weather is most often, if not only, characterized by snow, freezing temperatures, chilling winds, and dry air. These exact wonderful winter elements are the factors that will dry out your skin, snatch your glow, and leave you with chapped lips. Unless you wear a ski-mask on your walk to class everyday to protect your skin, moisturizer is your best defense.
Again, since I’m no expert on the details, I decided to look into tips and advice on skincare for the harsh winter months from those who know what they’re talking about. Here are some things I found: Unfortunately one of the most common tips I found during my research is take LESS HOT SHOWERS. I, personally, cannot do away with that, but it does make sense. Too much hot water strips away your natural oils that are already trying to battle the low winter humidity and sharp, cold winds. Right after you shower, be sure to moisturize, to lock in the moisture. Moisturizing will help heal and prep your skin to be exposed to the cold. KEEP SOME MOISTURIZER IN YOUR SHOWER for immediate use, but also keep some HAND LOTION BY THE SINK for a little healing after you wash your hands too.

Speaking of hands, for some more protection, WEAR GLOVES! Not only a fun way to compliment your outfit, but it’ll prevent your hands from getting chapped and rough.
Finally, I’ve said a lot about moisturizing and effects of the cold already, so to keep it short, obviously all the above also applies to that beautiful face of yours. Most of your body will already be dressed up when you go to brace the cold. Even without gloves, you’ll most likely stick your hands into your pockets. But what about your face? I mentioned this above already, but unless you brought your ski mask from home, your face is fully exposed to the famously cold & harsh new england winter. Keep your skin healthy and glowing with a winter routine. A GENTLE SCRUB for both your lips and face to buff away dead, flaky, and dry skin is good idea. Also, try switching up your cleanser with a gentler one– one that won’t strip those natural oils we like. If you use a face wash with salicylic acid, carry on! Try alternating the salicylic acid cleanser and the GENTLE CLEANSER (the salicylic acid may dry out your skin a bit more in the winter). A HYDRATING FACE CREAM is also as important if not more important than your body lotion. Keep that skin nice, fresh, and safe. These are my favorites, and beauty experts go to’s- but keep in mind that face moisturizer is something that is completely individualized. There are so many different skin types and skin combinations, finding what’s best for you could take time. Do some research or go to Sephora, and find what's best for you!
Lastly, keep chapstick with you at all times. That one's self explanatory.
At the end of the day maybe all your skin needs to repair from the winter winds is a HYDRATING FACE MASK. So keep moisturizing and as it gets colder outside your skin will thank you.
I hope i’ve inspired you to love your skin a little more during the winter.
Stay warm and moisturized!!
Till next time beauties,
xo Liza
