The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck
The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F**k by Mark Manson, is the book that everyone needs to have in their life. It is the ultimate slap in the face that some of us need from time to time. I am not that much of a reader, but I was recommended this book from a friend to read over the summer and I am so happy I purchased this book. I recommend this book as a beach read. The book is split up into the following chapters: Don’t Try, Happiness is a Problem, You are Not Special, The Value of Suffering, You are always Choosing Responsibility, You’re Wrong about Everything (embrace uncertainty), Failure is the Way Forward, The Importance of Saying No (Rejection), and the ...And Then You Die (Contemplation of one’s Mortality) chapter. Every chapter has a unique outlook and opinion on how you should choose to view and live your life. My friend texted me a picture of the cover and said, “Al you care too much about everything in your life, read this and make changes.” Turns out my best friend was spot on about me reading this book and now I have such a different outlook on living life in the present moment. Self-improvement is crucial in how you grow into the person you want to come. The books author Mark Manson, has you take a step back and re-evaluate the things you decide to value in your life. He discusses how you have the ability to choose what you care and don’t care about. Realizing you have this ability gives you power you don’t realize you have. Manson emphasizes how unhealthy our society can be with the idea of focusing on comparing ourselves to others. Social media is the fuel to the fire with this unhealthy mindset. The minute you realize you are special in your own unique way is when you will feel liberated to live the way you want to live. Mark Manson discusses working hard for happiness, the importance of rejection, and failure in this novel that taught me that it is okay to say no to people. It is also important to get rejected and feel the way you want to feel. The overall theme of this book is that you are the only one that can determine what makes you happy; so, live the way you want to live unapologetically. If you are in desperate need for a book about self-care and self-improvement, this is definitely what you are looking for.
