Nail Trends of 2020

Nail trends always come back one way or another, but this year the nail industry has gone somewhere that it has not been before. 2020 has been a crazy year so far, so why stop the craziness with your nails? There are 9 nail trends that have taken this year by storm. The first one is the butterfly trend. This trend is when the nail tech places a butterfly sticker or hand paints with either regular or gel polish (which is extremely hard) on your nails.

The next trend of 2020 nail art is crystal manicures. This is when the nail tech places a crystal or stone on a nail or multiple nails depending on the specific design you want and cures it. By curing the nail (placing it under the LED light), it guarantees that the crystal or stone will stay in place.

Long acrylics have made a comeback in 2020, but this time we are having more fun with it. Instead of painting boring solid colors, people are now adding designs and fun colors to the long acrylic nails. The nail tech does the designs with gel polish in order to paint the wanted design and then cure it, so it lasts.

Plants are the next trendy design of 2020. It sounds weird, but everyone is obsessed with plants nowadays, so it makes sense for the two to cross. This trend is commonly done by placing a sticker on the nail and then curling it, but it can also be done by hand. It depends on how you want the plant to look.

The easiest trend that came out of 2020 was the gradient nails. Just pick five colors that have similar shades to create this look. This design is simple, elegant, and artsy.

Ombré nails are back, but this time they are subtle. This trend is so elegant and can be worn with any occasion. This is usually done by the process of powder nails, which is when your nail tech tips your nails in powder to create the polish. The first process in doing this trend is to do your typical prepping of the nail. Then paint the base coat and dip the entire nail in the base powder. Once that is done, the next step is to pour over one color of the Ombré, and then tip or pour the other color. You repeat this step three times, and then finish the powder process to create the Ombré look.

French nails never go out of style, but they can be a little boring. 2020 has spiced them up by making them liner and even adding another line underneath to create depth. To do this design, you can do it with either gel or regular polish.

Instead of 50 shades of grey, 2020 is introducing shades of blue. This year’s color is blue, which symbolizes wisdom, trust, intelligence, confidence, loyalty, truth, heaven, and faith. To be honest, I think that is exactly why blue is the color of 2020. We have all had our faith, trust, and confidence all tested this year. But blue can also represent inspiration, which we all need a little of these days.

The last nail trend of 2020 is stars and astrology. Your nail tech can do this by hand, but it is more commonly done by applying stickers. When the stickers are applied, the nail tech cures them to seal and harden the nail.

Definitely be sure to check these out and try one of these out next time you go get your nails done!
