New York, I love you

Growing up only 40 minutes from the center of the most amazing city on earth (fact, not opinion don’t @ me) has been such a treasure. Birthdays spent at Beauty and Essex, tea at The Plaza, and brunch with my mom at Balthazar. Nights spent seeing Hamilton, sneaking into rooftop bars with my friends, walking through times square at night, dumplings with friends in China Town, the Upper East Side in May, Central Park in October. I can’t even begin to recount every experience I’ve had in New York that has in some way completely shaped me into who I am. City people get it. There’s is something so energizing about this city. Here are my absolute favorite things to do in the city.

MUSEUMS

There is actually nothing I love more than spending an afternoon at a museum. (Wherever he is- my perfect man will agree that this is a go to rainy day activity.) The combination of history and art, two of my loves, means I could spend forever in the MOMA and never be bored. My favorite museums in the city are The Cooper Hewit, The Frick, The MOMA, and the Met. I absolutely loooove The Frick, it’s an old mansion right on Central Park. The house is beautiful, but the art really makes it incredible. If you’re not a museum person but want to give one a try, The Cooper Hewitt is a design museum with so much to offer. Theres an interactive floor with a SCRATCH & SNIFF WALL. It’s seriously so cool and a great place to get a cool Instagram.

SHOP

Yup, you probably knew this was going to be included in this article. From small boutiques to Bergdorfs, the city will never leave a penny in my wallet. I love spending a hot summer day bouncing from store to store in SOHO or exploring adorable shops in the west village. I also love Brookfield Place (shoutout to my Dad for working in the same building… luhhhh you). The Bloomingdales in the city holds a special place in my heart. I found both of my prom dresses here and have spend numerous afternoons literally shopping until I drop there (sorry Mom.) I also love shopping in the various thrift and second hand stores the city has to offer. Sometimes a walk in Soho leads you to your new favorite store.

BRUNCH

Brunch is the perfect meal. Wether it’s Balthazar’s more traditional elegance or Dos Caminos’ bottomless brunch- the city has so much to offer. My friends and I also love getting Dim Sum in China Town. All of my favorite brunch spots are also great spots to snag a cool pic for an Insta-post. If you want something light, By Chloe is healthy and delicious. Butcher’s Daughter is also a fan favorite amongst those looking for a healthier, possibly vegan choice. Jack’s Wife Freda’s diverse menu has something to offer whether you have a sweat tooth or want some yolk porn. Sadelle’s is the shit. You’re welcome.

DINNER

You probably noticed that I completely skipped lunch. This isn’t a mistake. When I’m in the city I usually have brunch and dinner. If I’m absolutely starving I’ll have a latte, but I think sitting down for lunch in the middle of the day in NYC is a waste of sunshine. I will break this rule on rainy days and try to get a table at Mercer Kitchen, 19 Cleveland, or Rosa Mexicana- but really don’t waste a second in the city by sitting and eating. Grab a scone, a coffee, and keep exploring. My favorite spots for dinner are…

Johns Pizzeria $

Dos Caminos, Beauty and Essex, Stanton and Social $$

Catch, Vandal, Charlie Bird $$$

Lafayette, Sushi Yasuda, Nobu $$$$

New York City has so much to offer. There will always be an adventure waiting just around the corner. I could spend an infinite amount of afternoons exploring side streets and never be bored. New York is home to about 9 million people, I’m not one of them- but I will be someday soon.

New York, I love you.

All my love,
