BREAKING NEWS BACHELOR NATION

ATTENTION ALL BACHELOR FANS:

As one may think, the girl picked for the upcoming season of The Bachelorette would be one of the final five from Peter’s season (season 24) … Ummm no. So classic of Bachelor producers, they again threw us for a loop. Announced on Good Morning America this morning is the newest Bachelorette…Clare Crawley!  A 38-year-old bachelor alum and runner-up from Juan Pablo’s season of the Bachelor (18- talk about a throwback). All hope in the Bachelor/Bachelorette franchise is regained! Clare was always able to give viewers a laugh, especially as she came into Bachelor mansion with a fake baby bump. This morning on GMA, Clare said “The most important thing is I want a man who will take off his armor… I want a man who is strong, but is willing to take off the body armor, open himself up and be vulnerable, and I think that is some serious strength right there." Clare went on to say that personality over looks is always the way to go. This is a really important lesson for many to learn and I’m here for Clare preaching it to us. Clare, known to date younger guys, sets the record straight saying that age will not be a deal breaker for her, "I'm proud of my age, but I just feel younger and I feel like that to me is what's important," Clare mentioned.

Clare’s age is redesigning the way many people look at dating. Although my iconic favorite, Carrie Bradshaw and her entourage tried to change the way people view “older singles” and the stigma that mid-late 30’s was “too old to date” many years ago on Sex and The City, this stigma is still present in pop culture.  The Bachelor producers could be doing this to normalize the notion that many people are waiting longer to get married.  This is such an amazing progression for the Bachelor franchise, and in my opinion, will certainly be more meaningful than this season.  Current bachelor Peter’s final three contestants are between the ages of 23-26. This leaves many viewers questioning if they are truly ready to marry and settle down, as opposed to them coming on the show to gain media following (and become influencers). The petty, immature drama will likely be minimized on Clare’s season, since she is older, wiser, and more mature than many of the current contestants.  It remains to be seen who the men are that will come on the show, however, we should all seriously applaud the Bachelor producers for straying away from their new normal of clearly fake drama and for refocusing on the whole mission of the Bachelor/Bachelorette: to find love. That’s all for now!
