Hey Gals,

Need a quick last-minute gift idea for your Valentine or Galantine? I got you! Any time I give a gift it’s always from the heart, and the way to my heart is with food. For the last 5 years, I have given all my past Valentines and Galentines dessert as their present. From conversation heart sugar cookies, to homemade Reese’s hearts, I have always made something special.

Last year, while I was a freshman at Fairfield, I didn’t know how I was going to carry on my tradition. With a quick trip to the Tully, I was able to make chocolate covered pretzels, chocolate covered bananas, and Vegan Reese’s for my Galentines. This year in North Benson Bakes (Fairfield Universities Baking Club) February meeting we made tons of Valentine’s goodies. We made chocolate covered strawberries, chocolate covered pretzel’s, and chocolate covered Oreo’s as well! YUM, it couldn’t get any better than that. Now don’t fret if you missed it because I will be sharing with you the 3 fast and easy recopies that we used!

How to get the ingredients:This is super easy, and when I say super easy, I mean you can get all the ingredients from the Fairfield Dinning Hall. First, head on over to the yogurt station and pick out the best-looking strawberries. Next, head over to the ice cream station and fill up a paper cup of chocolate chips. Also, grab any decorations you may want like sprinkles or chocolate shavings. Then, grab some pretzel rods from the Sandwich station (sometimes they only have the regular pretzels which will also work!). Finally, remember to have fun with this, cover anything you want in chocolate: like potato chips, popcorn, cookies, anything else you can get your hands on. Sadly, the Tully does not serve Oreos, but you can buy them at The Stag or the BCC bookstore if you really want them. The Before and After

What you Need:

A dozen strawberries

A dozen pretzel rods

A bag of Oreos

12 oz milk chocolate (or a cup of chocolate chips from the Tully, the more the merrier)

6 oz white chocolate for drizzle (the Tully sometimes offers white chocolate)

½ tbsp tablespoons oil (optional just helps the melted chocolate be smoother)Festive Sprinkles and chocolate shavings

Directions: Theses steps apply to anything you want to cover in delicious chocolate.

Melt- a cup of milk chocolate in the microwave with a ½ tbsp of oil, it will take abut 30-60 seconds depending on how well the microwave you are using works. This might take longer but keep your eye on it, so the chocolate doesn’t scorch. Dip- item into melted chocolate and place on a plate. Decorate- with whatever sprinkle or drizzle combination your heart desires! Let sit- till chocolate has hardened, one way to make this go by faster is quickly popping it in the freezer.

Finally: Enjoy them yourself or share with someone special!

Side Note: If you want to get a little fancy you can do what I am doing this year… this does require going to the store but is still extremely easy. All you need is pizza dough, pizza sauce, cheese and an oven! Heart shaped pizzas are the perfect way to celebrate valentine’s day, if you want to stay in and do something special with your valentine.

Share Your Love Babe,

Elizabeth Benson
