2023: Fashion Ins & Outs

2022 was a year that consisted of a multitude of trends. As we enter the second month of the year we are beginning to see which trends made the cut for 2023 and which were left in the dust in 2022. Although everyone is encouraged to pursue their own personal style, these are our “ins and outs” of 2023

IN

Basics

In 2022, we were influenced to stock up on basics rather than trendy pieces. When you have a closet full of basics it makes it easier to build an outfit. Trendy pieces tend to go out of style quickly while basics are built to last a lifetime.

In order to build a closet of basics begin with the base layer. Start with long and short sleeve tops in neutral colors like black, white, and tan.

For bottoms, invest in a staple pair of jeans or cargo pants that you can dress up or down.

All of these pieces although basics, make statements in your outfits and can be used for many years to come!

Leather

Leather has always been a staple for winter fashion however, recently leather jackets and pants have been super popular.

A leather jacket is the perfect way to spice up an outfit and keep you warm.

Leather pants go with any top to make the perfect elevated look.

Due to the convenience of these pieces I definitely think they will remain in style for a long time so it's worth the investment!

Cargo Pants

Cargo pants became popular toward the end of last year. There are so many versions of cargo pants in different colors, rises, and materials. Since there is so much variety of cargo pants they don’t seem to be going anywhere this year. A simple top paired with cargo pants makes an easy, stylish outfit!

OUT

Cropped Everything

Crop tops have been popular for longer than the past year. While a slightly cropped sweater with higher rise pants can be cute, people seem to be leaning away from wearing extremely cropped tops.

With the revival of basics and athleisure people seem to value comfortable clothing over showing so much skin. While crop tops will remain a staple for going-out tops, it appears that crop tops as everyday clothing are in the past.

Ultra Low-Rise or High-Rise

The comeback of low rise jeans was always a controversial trend. Although many people warmed up to the idea, it seems that people prefer comfort and don’t always know how to style low-rise pants.

On the other end of the spectrum, many people no longer love extremely high-waisted pants either. In 2023, I think we will reach a happy medium of more mid-rise pants options to balance the extremes.

Loud Colors and Patterns

In 2022 we saw a lot of neon and patterned clothing. With the theme of minimalism and basics that we’ve seen entering this year, neutrals seem to be the colors of choice. Neutral colored clothes are easier to mix and match and can be elevated with other statement pieces like a jacket in another neutral tone.
