How Hansie Clothes Came to Be: The Story of Ellie Haney

Sofia Tedesco

Let’s start at the beginning. March 2020: a time where “WTF” was probably the most common phrase used ever– and Ellie Haney can attest to that. After not only finishing her senior year, dealing with a breakup and now at the start of a pandemic, Ellie was left to her own thoughts and mental struggles. With all the stresses in her life, it was easy to feel lost- but an idea came to her mind as she was trying to find motivation.

She asked herself, “What will get me up in the morning?” Questioning this usually gets the ball rolling, and starts the healthy habits that can potentially change the course of one’s life. For Ellie, this thought led her into using creativity as an outlet.

Post-grad, and back in her hometown, she held a corporate job with long hours and no time for balancing her work with her passions. Even after leaving that job for a new one, it was confirmed that her passions were the driving force behind what she should pursue. She knew her heart belonged somewhere else - doing something else. She confessed everything to her boss, who was very supportive of her motivation to turn “Hanesie” into a full time gig!

Now here we are, discussing HEREFORYOU and LOVEHARD ‘s creator and designer Ellie Haney - founder of Hanesie Clothes.

The lounge brand emphasizes the importance of mental health through a minimalistic design. It spreads the message that “we want” to hear from the people around us, and at times “we need” to hear support from others.

Collaborations with HANESIE x ANXIETY POSITIVE donates a percentage of her proceeds to HOPE FOR THE DAY for suicide prevention. Here we see a fashion curated for acceptance, love and creativity.

“Hanesie Clothes wants to normalize talking about mental health in a colorful and meaningful way”
