Happy Hunting, looking back on The Hunt 2018
If you are from New Jersey, or you went on Instagram this weekend, then you will be very familiar with ~The Hunt~
The Hunt is a horse race that takes place in Far Hills, New Jersey. Many people refer to the Hunt as a New Jersey holiday. The Hunt has always taken place on the weekend of October 19th-21st. It is the most expensive darty you will ever attend, and the biggest and preppiest fashion show you will ever witness in your life. As someone who has attended the Hunt in the past, I know for a fact that the Hunt is all about the outfits. Your outfit will be seen by not only everyone at the event, but it will be seen by everyone on Instagram, Snapchat, and Facebook. J.Crew, Brandy Melville, Steve Madden, Madewell, Vineyard Vines, and even more popular fashion brands will be repped by everyone at this horse race.
The huge grassy field of Far Hills is split up into many different sections in order for the Hunt to happen. The outside of the horse race is where families and other spectators buy parking spots and bring lots of food. There are also food trucks at the Hunt in the infield. The infield of the Hunt is where the fun is– high school and college students are gathered in a huge tailgate while being surrounded by the horse race.
You’re probably wondering, is there an actual horse race at The Hunt?
The answer to this popular question is yes. Many people know The Hunt as the Far Hills horse race and there are people that place money on many different horses. There is a horse race, but nobody really pays attention to the horse race.
The Hunt is all about repping cute outfits, getting drunk, getting good pictures, and, obviously, having fun. Many college students attend the Hunt because colleges pay for plots. This is where the nicest cars park, and there is a huge tailgate. Fairfield U had a parking spot at the Hunt where primarily Fairfield students and alumni hung out. Stopping by the Fairfield flag guaranteed you a drink and a sandwich from our lovely alumni. What could be more fun than a huge tailgate on a sunny, fall Saturday with all kids from your college? The one downside of the Hunt is how expensive the entry ticket is, but many college students are willing to make the purchase because of how fun the day is. College students that grew up in New Jersey come home for the event, where they reunite with their high school friends, or they bring their college friends that aren’t from New Jersey to introduce them to this unique scene.
To all Fairfield U students that went to the Hunt this year– I hope you had an eventful day, and if you want to go and experience the day next year, then Happy Hunting.
